Oak Bluffs

October 6, 2005

By Megan Alley - 508-693-0850 -

Blue skies, sunshine, slight breeze — the ultimate recipe for a perfect fall day and also for a wedding day. If you add in the background of the Parsonage Pond in West Tisbury you would have the picture for the wedding last Saturday of Christy Glynn and Ryan Rose. Many friends and relatives of the couple traveled from off-island to attend this happy celebration. Among the Rose relatives coming from off-Island were Ryan's twin brother Chris, parents Donna and Steve Kleir, and their two sons Stephen and Andrew, his Uncle Robbie Rose and his son Mitchell, and his uncle and aunt Ricky and Erin Rose. And of course in attendance were Ryan's Island relatives, proud grandparents Wendy Rose, Robert and Janice Rose, and great-grandmother Betty Rose. Congratulations to this new couple.

The Oak Bluffs Senior Center promises to keep everyone occupied this winter as they just keep adding more interesting programs to their already busy schedule. There will now be a walking cane decoration class starting Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 1 to 3 pm led by Barbara Whitmore. Also starting the same date will be the start-up of knitting classes led by Rose. Call the center if you are interested in participating in either class.

Let's send some birthday smiles to a few of the October people. Among them are Tony White who celebrated yesterday, Donna Joyce tomorrow, and Mabel McCarthy and Todd Rebello who share Oct. 9. And special smiles to Bink and Carol deBettencourt whose wedding anniversary is Oct. 9.

Don't forget the annual Open House at the Oak Bluffs School for kindergarten through grade five, which is tonight from 6 to 7 pm. Before the open house, there will be a pasta dinner sponsored by the eighth grade to benefit their annual trip next spring. Seating for this dinner will be 5 until 7 pm. Call the school office to check on tickets.

Also on Oct. 8 and 9, the "YES FEST" continues. This celebration is to benefit the IMP in-school programs. Troubled Shores will be having a number of performances along with face painting, food and games. Instead of tickets, buttons are being sold. They are available at the Oak Bluffs School as well as Island Entertainment and Cecilia Designs. The PTO's fund-raiser of Sally Foster wrapping paper has started. Friends and family can order from you by visiting and register using the school account number which is: 0249460.

Send any news or announcements my way, remembering my deadline of Sunday night, please.

Enjoy your week.
