Lucy Vincent Beach
A tradition to create the New Year

Islanders and visitors are invited to gather at Lucy Vincent Beach at 1 pm on Jan. 1 for a New Year’s tradition. Participants will join in a ritual that gives thanks and lets go of the year past while welcoming and creating the year to come. The event will be held rain or shine; dress warmly. 508-693-4307.Set foot into the New Year

Join the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank staff on a guided natural history walk of Sepiessa Point Reservation on Sunday, Jan. 2, at 1 pm. The two-hour walk begins from the trailhead off New Lane in West Tisbury and will be held rain or shine. Carpooling is recommending; parking is limited. 508-627-7141.

Legal and financial planning workshop

Individuals with disabilities and their families are invited to attend a free workshop offered by the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services on Saturday, Jan. 8. Attorney Theresa Varnet will present information on trusts and estate planning options, guardianship options, financial planning to preserve government benefits, and Social Security issues. The workshop will be held from 9 am to 1 pm at the Oak Bluffs School community room. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Registration is at 8:30 the day of the workshop or via phone by Dec. 31, 508-693-7900, ext. 249.

Maisy visits Island libraries

Maisy, the popular storybook character created by Lucy Cousins, will be visiting Island libraries in the month of January. Sponsored by Martha’s Vineyard Library Association’s children’s librarians, her stories are a favorite with young children. Come and meet Maisy during the following story times:

Oak Bluffs library, Sat., Jan. 8, at 11 am
West Tisbury library, Wed., Jan. 12 at 10:30 am
Edgartown library, Sat., Jan. 15 at 3 pm
Vineyard Haven library, Tues., Jan. 18, at 10 am and 11 am
Chilmark library, Sat., Jan. 22, at 10 am.
