Food drive with a curve
The annual food drive at Curves to benefit the Island Food Pantry will run for two weeks, March 6-March 18. The Curves food drive is part of a national effort organized by the exercise studios to support local food banks.

Curves will waive the annual service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries. Anyone wishing to make a donation may drop off food items at Curves, 395 State Road, next to the East Chop Sleep Shop, in Vineyard Haven. For more information, call 508-696-3030.

Scholarships available
The Cape Cod Foundation has the following scholarships available for Island students: the Cape Cod Foundation, the Annie S. Crowell, the Roslyn Praise Margolin, and the Stanley V. Margolin.

The meaning of meditation
A four-day series entitled "Progressive Integration of the Meaning of Meditation" will begin on Wednesday, March 8 and continue through Saturday, March 11 at the Bodhi Path Buddhist Center in West Tisbury.

His Holiness Shamar Rinpoche, founder of the Bodhi Path Centers, will give a series of teachings based on a text by the great Indian scholar Vimilamitra. The text emphasized the importance of thoroughly integrating the Buddha's teaching through practice in a systematic step-by-step manner.

The teachings will be given Wednesday to Friday, March 8, 9, 10 at 6:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturday, March 11 from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 to 4 pm. The teaching is open to newcomers and students of all levels. A suggested donation of $20 or $30 is asked. For more information, call 508-696-5929.

Get ready to turn green
Good Shepherd Parish is hosting a St. Patrick's Day party on Friday, March 17, 6 to 8 pm, at St. Augustine Church, Franklin Avenue, in Vineyard Haven.

A corned beef and cabbage dinner with all the extras will be served and there will be entertainment, great door prizes, and a raffle for those with the luck of the Irish.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 13 years old and are on sale now. Stop by the Parish Center, 55 School Street, Oak Bluffs or mail a check to Good Shepherd Parish, P.O. Box 1058, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.

Four dinner parties, one great cause
Four theme dinners are planned for March with the proceeds going to the students at the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School for their trip to Italy. The dinners, each with a different chef, will be held at the Daniel Fisher House in Edgartown.

Beginning the series on Friday, March 10 with a French theme will be chef James McDonough. Christina Napolitian makes an Italian dinner on March 17 and Saskia and David Vanderhoop with Norman and Jessica Hall will prepare a Surinam dinner on March 24. The final dinner will have a Chinese theme with Charlie Esposito on March 31.
