Mysterious green things are bravely trying to break through the cold ground and give us hope of warmer weather and spring approaching. Penny Norris very kindly called to let me know that crocuses were blooming in her yard and that meant spring would be early. But we Islanders know what spring usually means here - rain or fog and cool temperatures. Along with the bulbs starting to appear, the return of many Islander from their winter in the warm country is quite obvious as once more the stores and streets are getting busier and boat reservations scarcer. But welcome home everyone anyway.

Misty and Mike Araujo, their son Tyrone along with Misty's mother Nancy Nevin and Misty's brother Willy had a vacation adventure in Florida recently. In addition to touring Disney World and Universal Studios, they enjoyed the beautiful scenery at the beaches and met up with a few relatives. They had a visit with Nancy's brother Bobby Hordern, his wife Jill, and their new baby Riley. The group also met up with a few Araujo relatives, among them Uncle David and his sons Stevie, Davie, and Jay and Jay's sons Trey and Devin. The group had a family gathering at the Aruajo residence there in Florida and were happy to see Josephine and Phillip Tucker, former Island residents.

Rose Cogliano is still looking for more people who might be interested in a trip to Foxwoods sponsored by the Oak Bluffs Senior Center. They need a total of 48 people to contract with a bus for the trip. Thus far they are a bit short. So if you are interested or know anyone who might be, please get in touch with Rose at the Center as soon as possible so they will be able to set definite times and dates.

Congratulations to the Martha' s Vineyard Regional High School Ice Hockey Team which got as far as the semi-finals in the State Tournament. What a great accomplishment. They were well supported along the way by their families and other Island fans.

Send speedy recovery wishes to Will deBettencourt who underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday last and to Betty Alley who is recovering at our community hospital after hip surgery.

We send birthday smiles to Will Farrissey who turned the big 15 on March 14, Jib Ellis on March 15, Kelsey Debettencourt on March 18, and St. Patrick on March 17.

The annual Oak Bluffs School "It's Almost Spring" Kindergarten and first-grade concert is tonight from 6:30 to 7 pm at the school cafetorium and a reminder that the Second and Third Grade Concert will be Wednesday, March 29 also from 6:30 until 7 pm. I can personally attest to the fact that these concerts are always enjoyable and quite charming; the students sing with great enthusiasm as they wave and smile to their parents and relatives in the audience.

Enjoy your week and send you news along, please.
