Postcards you will never see

The photography show currently at Featherstone Center for the Arts features scenes of Martha's Vineyard that might make the Chamber of Commerce cringe. "No lighthouses or sailboats in this show," said art teacher Chris Baer of the students' ironic views of scenic Martha's Vineyard. Janice Baer worked with husband Chris and the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School students through the Center for Creative Expression on the "Forgotten Postcards" show.

Armed with their cameras, the four student photographers captured the Island, warts and all. From 1930s car graveyards, to abandoned houses and rural farms, the show is a stark view of the Island that the tourists rarely see. A large crowd packed Featherstone for last Saturday's opening reception.
