There was lots of activity over the long weekend as seasonal residents came for the long Easter-Patriot's Day holiday and to start opening their houses for the summer.
The annual town meeting is next Monday, April 24, at the community center, 7 pm, and we vote on Wednesday, April 26, also at the community center.
Jan Buhrman is running as a write-in candidate for the Board of Health. Jan has two children, is a teacher and school librarian, and has a catering business. She has been active in the community for the last two decades.
Another reminder of summer: applicants for summer jobs at the community center may fill out and submit forms online by going to www.chilmarkcommunitycenter.org. Applications must be in by May 1. Betty Frank Bailey will answer questions directed to email@example.com.
Events associated with the One Book, One Island discussions include the showing of a PBS documentary "Chicago" at the library on Wednesday, April 26, at 7 pm. The adult book is Ward Just's "An Unfinished Season," and the children's selection is "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian author. A 1950s-style dance at Fanny Blair Hall in Vineyard Haven on Sunday, April 23 at 7 pm is another One Book, One Island gathering.
A reminder: the Women's Symposium XVII will meet this Saturday, April 22, from 9 am to 12 noon at the community center. The theme is "The Myth of Perfection." Several speakers are scheduled to give talks, after which smaller groups will form for discussion. Refreshments will be served.
The school's songfest for parents is Wednesday, April 26.
