Oak Bluffs

By Megan Alley - April 20, 2006

What a beautiful day we were given on Easter. The sunrise service at Sheriff's Meadow Beach at West Chop offered us everything: The moon setting in the West and the sun rising in the East casting a rosy glow and path of light across the water. And then, the ferry quietly left its slip at Vineyard Haven harbor and silently began its journey to Woods Hole, cutting through that path of light. The remainder of the day was also sunny and warm as many visitors came for the weekend to visit their family and friends.

A correction to an item in last week's column is due. Peter Forend is a Sgt. not a PFC as I previously stated.

We send birthday smiles to Michael Baird who celebrated March 24, Gloria Steere on April 23, Peter Martell and Michael Baird share April 24, Donna Pachico and Andy Farrissey on April 25 and Gerry Cronig the next day.

Keep in mind that the Staff Appreciation Week at the Oak Bluffs School sponsored annually by the PTO will be held the week beginning May 7 and continue until May 13. Parents, students, and friends are encouraged to reach out to the amazing staff with any sign of affection.

Matt and Nick Rivers accompanied their mother Kati Alley to Daniel Island, S.C. where the family visited with Dion and Debra Alley and their children, Sam, Ben, and Paige. This will be the first time they have been to that section of the country and they will have some time to explore and sightsee for the week they are there.

Jack and Sarah Lavallette along with their children Alley, Logan, and Jake and Jack's parents were here for the Easter weekend and school vacation at their new home on June Ave.

Mary and Bruce MacNamee and their son were the guests over Easter of Mary's mother, Lou Healey.

Elizabeth Alley held her annual Easter Egg Hunt at her home Sunday morning. Attending were approximately 25 friends and relatives socializing and hunting eggs but most of all chatting with the hostess who has returned to her Vineyard Ave. home after recent surgery at Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Save the Date: Good Shepherd Parish is planning one of the biggest youth retreats in the state this June 3. International Contemporary Christian musician Matt Maher and his band are coming to the Island for a high school retreat. Having heard him when I attended the Music Liturgy conference in Phoenix last summer, I can assure you that you are in for an exceptional treat. I will give you more details as they are being finalized.

Enjoy your week and send your news along.
