Prized poet

West Tisbury poet Daniel Waters took first prize in the Newburyport Art Association poetry contest with his poem "Jellyfish."

Mr. Waters's poetry is a regular feature in Yankee Magazine as well as on the Cape and Islands' NPR station. You can hear Mr. Waters read his work at the Vineyard Have Public Library on Tuesday, May 23, at 6:30 pm. The reading is free.

Annual bloom

The 11th annual Flower Art Show will kick off the season at the Dragonfly Gallery in Oak Bluffs today at 4 pm. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 4 to 7 pm with refreshments and an opportunity to talk about art with owner Holly Alaimo and guests.

This year's show is an assortment of flower images in various mediums by Island and regional artists. The show will run through Sunday, May 21. Gallery hours are 12 noon to 7 pm, Thursday through Sunday.

Art is every form

Next Thursday evening, May 18, the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School will explode with art in every form at the annual Evening of the Arts. Singing, dancing, visual arts, and music will entertain you. Graduating senior portfolios will be on display in the hallways and gallery areas.

Don't miss this end-of-the year extravaganza as our high school students show off their talent.

Outerland goes poetic

John Maloney and Dan Waters are the featured poets tonight, Thursday, May 11, at Outerland beginning at 8:30 pm at the Martha's Vineyard Airport. The John Alaimo trio will provide mellow jazz, and there is an open mike for other poets, too.
