Chilmark

By Jacqueline Sexton - May 25, 2006

The Friends of the Chilmark Library will give a farewell party in honor of Cathy Thompson, who is retiring after 17 1/2 years as Chilmark librarian, on Saturday, June 3, from 5 to 7 pm at the library. Everyone is welcome.

The busy season is in full swing with Memorial Day weekend suddenly a reality even as work on the Bourne Bridge slows travelers. (Is there a time when the bridge is not being worked on?) Island carpenters have been doing repairs and reshingling in the slower months, and now caretakers are turning on water, and securing floating docks, landscapers are flat-out mowing lawns turned rampant from all the rain, and the library has summer assistants in place.

A big happy birthday on Saturday, May 27, to Ethel Sherman. All the more reason to have a town birthday party. Many happy returns!

Pastor Nancy Collins will be leaving next month to take up pastoral duties at Chapel by the Lake in Keene, N.H. starting July 1. Her replacement will be announced soon.

Happy Memorial Day!
