Harvard choristers in sacred concert

Posted May 25, 2006

The Harvard University Choral Fellows will perform a concert of sacred music to benefit the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School Minnesingers on Sunday at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The program includes Tomas Luis Da Victoria's, "Missa O Magnum Mysterium" and Cipriano De Rore's "Missa Douce Memoire." Regional high school alumni Jonas Budris and Jesse Wiener, former Minnesingers, are members of the group. The Minnesingers will also perform.

The Choral Fellows group is modeled on the tradition at Cambridge College in England. In addition to daily and Sunday services, the 16-member group sings at seasonal services, and performs several concerts with the Harvard Choir each year. One program this year was Mozart's "Requiem."

The Choral Fellows have also performed off-campus with such renowned groups and musicians as Christopher Hogwood, Andre Parrott, the Choral Scholars of King's College, Cambridge, and have sung the National Anthem at Fenway Park.

Harvard Choral Fellows concert, Sunday, May 28, 8 pm, Old Whaling Church, Main Street, Edgartown. $10 suggested donation, benefits the Minnesingers.
