An Oak Bluffs scene by Renee Balter.

Oak Bluffs, Balter style

The Dragonfly Gallery in Oak Bluffs will feature the work of Renee Balter beginning today and running through Sunday, June 4.

Ms. Balter has portrayed Vineyard scenes since 1966 with acrylics and pen and ink. Her note cards introduced in 1979 were immediate favorites. In the early 1980s, Ms. Balter turned to oils and monoprints depicting the spirit of summer fun. Her illustrations are featured in the book "Magic Time, A Family Guide to Martha's Vineyard."

See Ms. Balter's work at the Dragonfly and capture the feel of old Oak Bluffs.

Renee Balter opening reception, Saturday, May 27, 4 to 7 pm at Dragonfly Gallery, Dukes County Avenue, Oak Bluffs. Gallery hours: Thursday through Sunday, 12 noon to 7 pm or by appointment. Call 508-693-8877.

Irish music concert, a must-hear

Paddy Keenan and Billy Kelly will perform traditional Irish music at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, May 27. This pair is a must-hear duo and their show is a non-stop evening of pure entertainment.

Mr. Keenan is one of the most accomplished uilleann pipers out there, described by a band mate as the Jimi Hendrix of the pipes. Mr. Kelly's driving rhythms on guitar are the perfect accompaniment to Mr. Keenan.

The concert is sponsored by KCT Concerts, the non-profit group responsible for bringing great Irish music to our shores. Their Celtic concerts are available on CD, the sale of which raises funds for KCT Concerts.

Paddy Keenan and Billy Kelly in concert Saturday, May 27, 8 pm, Katharine Cornell Theatre, Spring Street, Vineyard Haven. Tickets: advance sale, $15 for adults; at the door, $20 for adults; $10 for children. Call for reservations, 508-693-6996.
