Island artists at Shaw Cramer

The Shaw Cramer gallery opens the summer season with "Island Invitational 2006," a multi-media show featuring new work by 15 local artists in a variety of techniques and media.

Elizabeth Taft, Leslie Baker, and Rick Lee paint with oil on canvas, each in a distinctive style. Ms. Taft is a plein aire landscape painter, Mr. Lee paints complex abstract compositions, and Ms. Baker captures the subtleties of light in the landscape.

Working with intricate collage and oil on panel, Stephanie Danforth paints fruits and vegetables. Rose Treat continues her exploration of seaweed collage. There is clay work by Adele Schonbrun and Ann Leonard and Jennifer McCurdy's wheel-thrown porcelain, and more painting by Dawn Greeley, John Holladay, Rose Abrahamson, and Wendy Weldon.

Unique photography by Kathy Newman and Karen DiMaura will be shown, as well as Eva Gallant's inventive wire and mixed media sculptures.

Artists' reception, Friday, June 30, 6-8 pm. Jazz piano by Abbie Dreyer. 56 Main Street, upstairs, Vineyard Haven. 508-696-7323. Open daily 10-5.

The exhibit by several noted photographers features images of Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Beatles, Stones, Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, CSNY, and others.
