This Saturday evening, join artists Renee Balter and Bob Fitzgerald in an opening reception at Cousen Rose Gallery in Oak Bluffs. Ms. Balter will be showing her acrylic paintings and Mr. Fitzgerald his watercolors.

Honoring Della Hardman

The Oak Bluffs library is hosting the Della Hardman Art Exhibit opening, this Saturday afternoon. The exhibit will display charcoal portraits, fibers, photographs and watercolors, and will run until Aug. 2 during regular library hours, in the meeting room.

Ms. Hardman, a dedicated and well-loved artist, professor, and columnist who lived in Oak Bluffs, died last December, at 83 years of age.

Italy-inspired

Wendy Weldon and her solo show "Icons" opens this Friday, July 28, at the Shaw Cramer Gallery in Vineyard Haven. Ms. Weldon was inspired by gold leaf on canvas works from paintings and frescoes of Fra Angelico. She said that in a recent trip to Italy, she realized how different her iconography is from his - while he painted saints and angels she paints stones and barns. Jazz pianist Abbie Dryer entertains.

Two at Belushi Pisano

New works by Shawn Meharg and Judy Barie will be on display at the Belushi Pisano Gallery beginning this Friday. Mr. Meharg recently changed his focus to fine art after 15 years in the entertainment industry as a scenic artist and designer. Ms. Barie has been painting her abstract art on paper, canvas, and wood for 20 years, and has been shown nationwide. The show will run through August 10.

Mimosas and muffins again!

As a result of the popular Sunday brunch and art event held last Sunday, the Four Generations Art Gallery will host a second brunch, this time as an art closing. The "Flowers and Gardens" art show and brunch will be this Sunday, July 30.

Next, the gallery presents a reception, "An Evening in Tuscany" on Sunday, Aug. 6, 6 to 9 pm. This show continues through Aug. 13. Four Generations Art Gallery is located at 517 State Road, Vineyard Haven.

Form and color in glass

An exhibit by Seattle glass artist Sonja Blomdahl opens at the Martha's Vineyard Glassworks Sunday. Ms. Blomdahl who has worked in Seattle since 1983 when she built her own studio, says her primary focus is with the vessel. "In the vessel I find the form to be of primary importance," she says. "It holds the space...is a 'history of my breath.'"
