Must-see at the Craven

A dramatic new show featuring photos by Patricia Blanchet, and works by printmaker Jo-Anne Bates and painter David Remfry opens with an elegant and upbeat reception this Sunday. Ms. Blanchet's collection, "Burkina Reflected," offers striking images of Africa from the artist's intimate perspective. Jo-Anne Bates's monotypes, layer color and texture; her work is inspired by favorite musical composers. New York City-based David Remfry does eye-catching watercolors, views of people being oh, so human.

Wire, Women, and Whimsy

Steve Lohman will exhibit his new stainless steel and wire sculptures at the e'Kaya Gallery Aug. 1-12. Take a look at the new work, socialize, and play a little croquet in the field in the company of wire sculptures at an opening reception today, Thursday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 8 pm. Proper attire is suggested.

Four at the Granary

Starting this Sunday, four artists will be featured at the Granary Gallery at the Red Barn in West Tisbury. Enjoy Mary Sipp-Green's ethereal landscapes and Island painter David P. Wallis's watercolors of great composition and texture. Bass fisherman Scott Terry focuses on realistic Vineyard scenes in contrasting light, and Karen Larsen Turner shows her new series of watercolor and oil paintings that reveal dappled light and summertime in familiar Island settings.

Feline frenzy

Vineyard writer Ursula Ferro will be presenting her new children's book, "Wishing for Kittens," during the art opening of "Cats! Cats! Cats!," a display of paintings, photographs, and other cat-styled art.

The book is the second in Ms. Ferro's series, and the third book will be published in 2007.

Also on show: paintings by Susan Rawson and seaweed collages by Rose Treat.

Art for everyone

The All-Island Art Show welcomes work by all artists. The art extravaganza is presented at the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs by the Campmeeting Association. It was started by the late Sydna White 48 years ago in her garden. This year a number of artistic "Vineyard Treasures" will be honored, among them Olive Bowles, Millie Briggs, Dorothy Burnham, Joe Hazen, Casimer Michalczyk, Gertrude Smith, Mary Stevens, Marion Strauss, Rose Treat, and several others who have contributed to the show. The non-juried show accepts work in every medium and cash prizes are offered.

Open studio

Jack Greene's polychrome wall sculptures, shapes derived from the human form as well as flora and fauna, will be on exhibit at his studio this weekend. His work involves painting, casting in resin, and the use of clay moulds.
