Traditional Mexican art
Today marks the ninth annual Vineyard Huichol art show and sale, which features beaded animals, masks, yarn paintings, and a live demonstration with a Huichol bead artist. The Huichol, of the Central Western mountains, are descendents of the Aztecs and are one of the most traditional people of Mexico. Their handiwork provides a necessary income for their communities.
Proceeds from the show benefit the Huichol people; admission is free. The show is from 10 am to 6 pm at the Old Whaling Church on Main Street in Edgartown. The show moves to the Grange Hall in West Tisbury on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 14 and 15, from 10 am to 6 pm. 508-693-6696.
