The Martha's Vineyard Museum is holding a Volunteer Introduction and Tour, followed by refreshments, on Thursday, August 17, at 2 pm at its Edgartown campus at 59 School St. This is a special introduction to the museum for anyone interested in learning more about and becoming involved with this important Vineyard organization. Volunteer opportunities are available through October in visitor services, the library, special events, and more.

Red Cross classes
Brush up your current CPR/AED, First Aid, and infant/child CPR knowledge during classes beginning this Saturday. The classes are held at the YMCA offices on Pequot Avenue in Oak Bluffs. All classes except for child CPR will be held this Saturday, August 12. Resuming on August 22 through 24, all classes will be held at the American Legion Hall in Vineyard Haven.

Doctor of Botany and master gardener Alicia Lesnikowska will continue the Martha's Vineyard Community Solar Greenhouse (COMSOG) three-part lecture series next Thursday, August 17. Her lecture will discuss how to manage plants for productivity, and will be held in the Oak Bluffs Public Library meeting room. If you're lucky, you'll win one of the plant or herb door prizes.
The fifth annual Junior Police Academy will take place August 28 through 31 from 9 to 2 pm daily at the Oak Bluffs School. This is a free program for children, nine to 13 years old, to learn and understand the role of police officers and their duties. The deadline for submitting an application is 4 pm, Friday, August 18. Ride to the Fair VTA style
For those heading to the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair this year, the Vineyard Transit Authority can help you avoid having to worry about driving to the fairgrounds in West Tisbury.
There are several places to hop aboard. From the Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority, buses will be departing at 15 minutes past the hour from 10:15 am to 10:15 pm; the reverse trip is at 45 minutes past the hour between 10:45 am and 10:45 pm.
On Church Street in Edgartown, buses will run to the fair every 14 minutes past the hour beginning at 10:14 am to 10:14 pm. The reverse trip is at 50 minutes past the hour from 10:50 am until 10:50 pm.
From Oak Bluffs, take the #9 bus, transfer at the Airport to the Fair Bus at 25 past the hour.
On Sunday, the last bus from the fair to the Vineyard Haven Steamship will be at 7:45 pm; to Edgartown, 7:50 pm. To the fair, the last bus from Vineyard Haven leaves at 6:15 pm; from Edgartown, 6:14 pm.
All bus riders receive $1 off their fair admission.

Israel crisis report and support
The Island community is invited tonight to hear a report on and discuss the current humanitarian crisis in Israel. Mr. Daniel R. Allen, the Executive Vice-President of the American Friends of Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross, will give a report on the situation and on the efforts already underway. The event will begin at 7:30 pm at the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven.

The Vineyard's Stop & Shop stores have donated $1,200 to the Island Community Chorus for three concert series. The chorus, a cultural arts program that attracts a wide variety of people from the Island community, is celebrating its 10th year.

Hospice of Martha's Vineyard invites you to Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs on Monday, August 14 for their annual Summer Soiree. The evening includes a gourmet dinner by Jaime Hamlin, a swing band, a raffle with great prizes, and an exciting auction.

The Edgartown School will host the show on Saturday, August 12, from 10 am to 4 pm at the school on Robinson Road.
Cars of all makes and years will be on display. The public will vote for the Best of the Show award in each category.
If you have a car you would like to enter in the show, bring it to the school. You can register on show day for $20. Pre-show registration is $15.
Admission to the car show is free. Bring the family.
