Posted August 10, 2006

The Run & Shoot Filmworks' Martha's Vineyard African-American Film Festival (MVAAFF) is on its way! Throughout the four-day event, festival-goers will have the opportunity to attend various workshops, panels and screenings that will take place in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. Now in its fourth year, the MVAAFF continues to be a vehicle for emerging and established independent filmmakers to tell their stories and network with peers and industry executives.

The festival gets underway today, Thursday, August 10, with a rooftop reception at the Mansion House in Vineyard Haven, followed by the screening of Universal Pictures and HBO Films' "Idlewild" at Entertainment Cinemas Edgartown. Tony Award-winning actor Ben Vereen, who also stars in the film, will introduce the original musical, which stars the multi-platinum members of OutKast, Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000) and Antwan A. Patton (Big Boi). The star-studded cast includes newcomer Paula Patton, Oscar nominee Terrence Howard, Faizon Love, Malinda Williams, Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Cicely Tyson, singer Macy Gray and Bruce Bruce with legendary recording artist Patti LaBelle and Ving Rhames lending performances to the film.

All events take place at Mansion House unless otherwise noted. Sponsors for this year's festival include HBO (awards), ESSENCE (media), The Bay State Banner (media), Mansion House (host hotel), Kodak, WBLS (107.5), Edgartown National Bank, Stop & Shop, ARRI/CSC, Indietalk.com and Crescendo.
