Rya Baird (right), 8, shown with Cathy Nee of Reflections Hair and Co., recently donated 12 inches of her hair for the Locks of Love foundation. Rya is the daughter of Alyson Woollacott and George Baird, both of Aquinnah. She will be entering third grade at the West Tisbury School this fall.

Caitlin Parry and Lacey McIntosh have been awarded the 2006 Dr. David Rappaport Memorial Scholarships for $1,000 each towards their post-secondary educations. Caitlin is the daughter of William Parry and Kathleen Cameron. Lacey is the daughter of Bruce and Cindy McIntosh.

Steve Gallas has been awarded a Propane Class Certificate from the Massachusetts Fire Academy. Mr. Gallas is a Tisbury and Chilmark firefighter.

Rosemarie Richard has been named the Distinguished Arts Educator of Music for 2006 for Massachusetts, by the Massachusetts Alliance for Arts Education during their 20th annual awards ceremony. Rosemarie is the daughter of Cynthia and Bill Richard of Vineyard Haven.

Molly Peters has received the Performing Arts Company Award at Belmont High School from which she graduated this past June. Molly is the daughter of Eric Peters of Vineyard Haven and Elizabeth Peters of Belmont.

Falmouth Academy awards:

Sam Amazeen has been awarded the Willard Weaner award for an outstanding contribution to the atmosphere of the school. Sam is the son of Ted and Susan Amazeen of Oak Bluffs.

Clea Baumhofer has been awarded the Olson Award for the love of learning, and the Lower School Distinction in History award. Clea is the daughter of Mark and Kim Baumhofer of West Tisbury.

Lagan Trieschmann has been awarded the Lower School Dedication in Math award. Lagan is the son of Beth and Stephen Trieschmann of Vineyard Haven.

Emelia Armstead received the Outstanding Beginner award in French. Emelia is the daughter of Kenneth Armstead and Lorna Giles.

Niole Nelson has been noted for her persistence and dedication in physical education. Niole is the daughter of Jeffrey and Dawne Nelson of West Tisbury.

Elin Nelson and Taza Vercruysee received coaches awards at the Falmouth Academy athletic awards banquet. Elin was recognized for her accomplishments on JV girls' lacrosse team, and Taza for JV boys' basketball. Elin is the daughter of Jeffrey and Dawne Nelson of West Tisbury. Taza is the son of Jim and Layne Vercruysee of Aquinnah.

Matt Tobin of Chilmark was named President of the Martha's Vineyard Coin Club.
