Water talk

Beginning in the latter half of September, the Aquinnah and Chilmark libraries will host a series of speakers who will speak on fish, fishing, and ocean life. Developed by Aquinnah Library Director Jennifer Christy and Chilmark Library Director Ebba Hierta, the series will include speakers such as Buddy Vanderhoop, well-known Vineyard charter fisherman and Wampanoag tribal member; Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Wildlife; and Bill Wilcox, water planner for the M.V. Commission, who will speak about threats to the health of the Island great ponds. For more information, contact the Aquinnah Library at 508-645-2314, or the Chilmark Library at 508-645-3360.

Poetry at the O

Tonight, Outerland will be the scene for the latest "Jazz-Live-Poetry" event, hosted by Linda Black and Michael West. Performing her poetry on-stage will be Samantha Barrow, a Philadelphia-based poet, activist, educator, and producer. She gained national recognition in 2004 when she began a three-month, cross-country spoken-word tour on her motorcycle, sponsored by the Leeway Foundation.

The night will also feature other special guests, and jazz entertainment from Don Groover. Doors open at 7:30, and there is a $10 cover charge. For more information, call 508-693-1137.
