Life on the rock

The Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven will present Marty Nadler in his latest version of "Very Vineyard," a comic look at Island life.

Enter the Twilight Zone

On Friday, Oct. 13, the FARM Institute in Edgartown will join forces with Martha's Vineyard Film Society and Island Entertainment to present "Twilight at the FARM." A big screen will be set up outdoors and a Twilight Zone episode, "It's a Good Life," will be shown.

The public will choose the remaining features by voting on the institute's web site at Log on and cast your ballot for shows ranging from Amazing Stories to Green Acres and also more Twilight Zone episodes that vie for screen time and your vote.

Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children 13 years and under. Admission includes the corn maze, a scary place to be at night, and refreshments. Bring blankets, chairs, and perhaps a flashlight. For more information, call 508-627-7007

Digital photography class

Chris and Janice Baer will hold a digital photography workshop beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School. The workshop will cover cameras, techniques, and Photoshop.

The classes will continue on Wednesday nights through Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 pm. The cost is $250. For more information or to register, call 508-696-8797.

Folk guitar boot camp

Steve Maxner is offering free folk guitar lessons on Wednesday evenings beginning on Oct. 18 and running through Dec. 13.

Mr. Maxner would like prospective students to commit to at least one hour of practice each day, attend all nine classes, and be motivated to work hard. He has space to teach six students.

Dance photo show

Photographer Sally Cohn's black and white photographs of dancers will be on display at the Chilmark Public Library through the month of October. See how Ms. Cohn's photos capture moments of grace, power, and beauty.

Apprentice Players

Lee Fierro will begin the 29th season of Island Theatre Workshop's Apprentice Players on Monday, Oct. 16. Youngsters' age 7 to 11 years can sign up for the weekly drama program, held at Grace Episcopal Church on Woodlawn Avenue in Vineyard Haven.

The weekly class includes theatre games, improvisations, movement, poetry, and more. The series of classes ends with a live performance for the public. Recent Apprentice Players productions include "Pippi Longstocking," "A Little Princess," and adventurous fairy tales.

Faith and fiddles

A high-energy Celtic dance and gospel production will be at two locations this weekend: Saturday, Oct. 7, at Union Chapel, Kennebec Avenue, Oak Bluffs and Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Old Whaling Church, Main Street, Edgartown. The Skys, a family of fiddlers and Irish dancers, are from Prince Edward Island, Canada. They perform traditional and original music and dance, and also funny skits and stories for the entire family.

Tickets for "Firey Faith and Fiddles" are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 6 to 12, and children under 5 are free. The concerts begin at 8 pm.
