Eric Bettencourt has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the Dukes County Sheriff's department. Eric is the son of Michael and Maria Bettencourt of Edgartown, and a 1989 graduate of the Martha's Vineyard High School. Lieutenant Bettencourt will be assigned to Operations.

Felicia Cheney, director of the Edgartown Public Library, and Nis Kildegaard, reference librarian, recently completed the reference course in the Basic Library Techniques program of SEMLS (the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library System).

Maria Metters recently completed an 100-mile bike ride fundraiser from Boston to Portland, Maine, to help fight Parkinson's disease. Maria rode to support her father, Bill Giarrusso, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's four years ago. This was the first-ever Boston2Portland fund-raiser, and more than $50,000 was raised.

Rebecca Wey of Oak Bluffs is participating in St. Lawrence University's International Study Program for the 2006 fall semester in England.

Rose Campbell has been named to the President's list at Mt. Wachusett Community College for the 2006 spring semester. This fall, Rose will attend Massachusetts College of Art in Boston as a painting major.

Kimberly Carter has recently become recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization, at Northeastern University in Boston. She is the daughter of Jim and Debbie Carter of Edgartown.
