Cutting edge Apple Betty

By Julian Wise - November 22, 2006

Who is Apple Betty? While the name suggests a new pie baking company, this title instead refers to one of Boston's most buzzed-about bands. The all female trio has already earned a cover story on the Boston Phoenix entertainment section and been highlighted in the Boston Globe Sidekick section.

Vocalist/guitarist Kerri Ann Richard, drummer Caroline Toth and bassist Jessica Rodden have drawn comparisons to The Donnas and Nancy Sinatra with their power-pop harmonies and hard rocking sound. Their lean, aggressive cover of the Beatles classic "Norwegian Wood" has garnered the band attention in the indie rock press. The band has recently released their debut disc "Let's Play," which is earning accolades from the Boston music press. Apple Betty will make their Island debut with Kahoots at the Wharf. Those looking for a chance to dance to power pop with an attitude should make the trek to Edgartown, as this performance offers the chance to see cutting edge Boston rock and roll without the boat and bus trip.

Apple Betty performs Saturday, Nov. 25, at The Wharf, Main Street, Edgartown.
