A bevy of artists

Painter Kara Taylor, who usually shows only her own work at her Main Street, Vineyard Haven gallery, is planning a group show this holiday season. Titled "Fourteen Artists You Should Know," the exhibit will feature painting and photography by five local artists and another nine from across the United States. Ms. Taylor, who opened her Kara Taylor Fine Art gallery last spring, said her original plan was to have an "emerging artists" show - "but it just got bigger, it's an eclectic mix." The show opens with a reception on Saturday, Nov. 25, 5 to 8 pm, and continues through Dec. 22.

More Vineyard Voices

More voices honored

"More Vineyard Voices-Words, Faces, and Voices of Island People," by Linsey Lee received honorable mention at the 10th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards. The book, a sequel to "Vineyard Voices," is published by the Martha's Vineyard Museum and contains portraits and excerpts from oral history interviews with 75 Islanders. Ms. Lee is the curator of oral history at the museum. The award was given in the category of creative non-fiction.

New work at Four Generations

The Four Generations Gallery will be open for several weekends this holiday season, and will feature new giclée prints by Paul Ortlip. He was able to get back to the Island following a hip operation to sign this new set of giclees, according to gallery director Michelle Ortlip. Included in this set are a number of ballerina paintings.

The gallery will be open on weekend afternoons beginning Saturday, Nov. 25, from 1 to 5 pm. On Saturday, Nov. 5, there will be an opening reception for Mr. Ortlip from 3 to 5 pm at the gallery at 517 State Rd. in Vineyard Haven. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 508-693-5501.
