The Benefits of Shopping

By Anna Marie D'Addarie - November 30, 2006

Across the Island, volunteers are busy baking cookies, knitting hats and scarves, turning scallop shells into ornaments, and spending every free moment preparing for one of the many holiday bazaars. Like Santa's elves, these Islanders are making beautiful holiday gifts. Their time and talent will help others when these lovely items are sold to benefit charity.

Some groups, such as Fish Farm for Haiti, have gone to the far corners of the world to bring exotic items to our shores. The money raised will help those in need as well as the artisans who made the gifts.

Island artists have been busy as well. You will find their work, generously donated, in silent auctions and sales across the Island. Make a statement with your shopping dollars. Give a handmade, homemade gift that benefits everyone.
