On Sunday afternoon Dec. 3, in a program sponsored by the Grace Episcopal Church and MVPFLAG (the Vineyard chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Gays and Lesbians), Marc Adams told his story of growing up gay in a fundamentalist Baptist home; his struggle at first to try to change himself and fit in, his journey through self-hate and believing he was condemned to hell, and his eventual acceptance of who he is.

In his work with an organization called HeartStrong - a support network for students from religious schools who struggle with feeling they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, of which he is executive director - he travels the country preaching a message of acceptance and "hope, love, and peace in life."
