Into the mix

By Tamar Russell - December 21, 2006

Every month both Mocha Mott's locations (Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven) have on display work by a different artist. This month in Oak Bluffs on display is a group of pieces by an artist called Bella.

Bella is a painter and a musician of Brazilian origin. Her show at Mocha Mott's this month is a statement regarding the beauty of the "mix" of color to create uniqueness. She said when she was putting this display up, she felt that it should speak to the Brazilians as well as others here on the Island and for this reason each explanation is in Brazilian Portuguese first and English second.

Part of the display is an installation "Mixtura" showing various Brazilian instruments and a song translated into English by Lynn Weber. The song describes the "mix."

She also has an uplifting painting "Anima Libre" and a small detailed sculpture in clay "A Rosa."

This will be up until Dec. 31 in Oak Bluffs.
