Now the bare tree limbs reach toward the sky looking like black fingers stretching upward as they are without leaves entirely. Only the evergreens give us color in this drab landscape. But here and there confused flowers and buds struggle to bloom in this strange weather pattern we are in. What the weeks ahead will bring to us we can only wait and see.

We send birthday smiles to granddaughter Talia Rogers who turned 16 on Jan. 21, Caroline Davey on Jan. 27, and Bethany deBettencourt on Jan. 21.

The Oak Bluffs School is still basking in the excitement of their Boys and Girls basketball teams, both of which captured the Island basketball championships. Congratulations to all the team members and coaches - Josh Aronie, Alex McCluskey, and John "JB" Blau.

The winners in this year's Geography Bee were Jack O'Malley, first place; Mitchell Lowe, second; and Chris Morris, third. Jack will represent the school at the state competition next month.

Save Feb. 2, at 6:30 pm for the school's annual talent show, which is always entertaining.

News from his family tells us that Orlie Alwardt has now been moved to Youville Hospital which is a rehab center. His address is: Floor 3-South Room 313, 1575 Cambridge St., Cambridge, MA 02138. Send a cheery greeting along to him or call him at 617-349-5776.

Well the days may be getting longer but the news seems to be getting shorter. Send items of interest along to me please.
