Blooms brighten dark days

The American Cancer Society's largest fundraiser is the annual Daffodil Day sale. Here on the Island the arrival of the flowers is much-anticipated. Pre-orders are taken in early March and the flowers arrive on the ferry on March 19. Volunteers hurry the flowers to waiting businesses, schools, and homes. Soon the tight buds relax and open, bringing the promise of sunny springtime and hope to cancer patients and their families.
