Many faces, many gifts
While adults enjoyed the presentation and exhibit, some worked with children and artist/teacher Nick Thayer (center), and had fun with art activities inspired by Ms. Jones's colorful textile work.
African American art and culture was the theme of a program co-sponsored by the Martha's Vineyard Branch NAACP and the Martha's Vineyard Museum held at the museum in Edgartown on March 24. Highlighting the afternoon was a presentation about the late Lois Mailou Jones, a nationally acclaimed artist who loved and faithfully visited the Island. Guests also viewed the newest Vineyard Voices exhibit by oral historian Linsey Lee, this one focusing on Islanders who joined the fight for civil rights.
