Gert Shea was expected to bring her husband, Roland, back to the Island late last week to the rehabilitation section of the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Roland suffered a severe stroke last month and has been getting treatment in Boston. We all send best wishes for his improvement.

April is National Poetry Month, and the library will celebrate it with readings in the meeting room by four Chilmark poets next Wednesday, April 18, from 5:30-6:30 pm. The poets are Donald Nitchie, John Maloney, Russell Hoxsie and Peggy Freydberg. Friends of the Library is sponsoring the readings, and refreshments will be served.

The school will take its spring break from April 15 to April 22.

Reading the waters these chilly April days may seem premature to anyone except a dedicated fisherman. Impatient anglers have been organizing their gear and fashioning ever more lethal lures to trap the wily bass for most of the winter. And the telephone hot line is now poised for action. One individual, Bob Iwaskiewicz, has arrived from Vermont and is keeping an eye on things at Lobsterville. His wife, Michelle, will join him soon.

The roads and parking lots have been filling up with out-of-state license plates since the middle of March. We're off and running into The Season.

Welcome to all of you. I would be grateful if you would all send me news of your plans and activities.
