Last weekend, the Clark House on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road was blanketed with patches of beauty in many shapes and sizes. For the second year, Lisa Rusche, owner of the Clark House, and Lynne Benson, owner of the Heath Hen, both in Vineyard Haven, invited Island quilters to show off their work.
More than 25 entries competed in six categories. The two top prizes went to Kathleen Peltier and Marsha Farrington, a choice of gift certificates to the Heath Hen Quilt Shop or the Clark House B&B.
Ms. Benson said that this year's show was a great success. A steady stream of people came to the Clark House to view the quilts. Some were rewarded with door prizes and everyone came away with a new respect for small pieces of fabric held together with thread.
The next exhibition will be for needlework on Saturday, April 28 from 1 to 4 pm, at the Clark House. Entries of needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, or embroidery will be judged.
This quilted bag, made by Marsha Farrington, won a red ribbon for second place in the show.
Kathleen Peltier's best in show ribbon hangs on her hand pieced and hand quilted work of art.
