Treehouse art

The third annual Nancy Luce group art show opens on Sunday, May 6, at Treehouse Studios in West Tisbury. Celebrating the life and poetry of Islander Nancy Luce, the show is a collection of Island artists who submit their work in honor of Ms. Luce.

Also on Sunday is the opening of "Bloom," a garden-themed show with Island artists such as Ruth Major, Paul Murray, and Teresa Yuan. The receptions begin at 5 pm, and the shows run through the first week of June. For more information, call 508-693-6645, or visit

Strike up the band

More than 100 student musicians will perform on Wednesday, May 9, at the high school's performing arts center. Hear the talent of the all-Island beginner's band, fifth- and sixth-graders, junior high A band, and jazz band as they come together and play traditional marches, cartoon theme songs, Latino beats, and an American folk song based on a Shaker melody. Keep the music playing by supporting these young musicians.

Family concert

The Minnesingers are having their spring concert this weekend at the Performing Arts Center at the high school. This year the concert will be a family affair aimed at a younger audience with Disney songs sure to delight.

Minnesingers "Remember When" concert, Saturday, May 5, at 7 pm and Sunday, May 6, at 3 pm. Tickets are $10, $5 for children, or $25 for families.

Student photographers

"Our Time at the Farm," a photo-documentary exhibit of time spent on the FARM Institute by regional high school students, opens this Saturday, May 5. Under the direction of Janice Baer and the Center for Creative Expression, students Arno Ewing, Sophia Grimm, Stuart Rodegast, Seth Seeman, Hilary Wall, and Andy Walsh display their photographs of livestock, crops, people, and activities they experienced. The opening reception is from 4 to 6 pm.

Also at the FARM this Cinco de Mayo is Liz Thompson's second annual Plow Day, where you can help prepare the fields and garden using oxen and a plow.
