Kate FitzGerald of Chilmark participated in the sixth annual Mount David Summit, a campus-wide exposition of student academic work at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Kate, a freshman, is the daughter of Charles FitzGerald and Kathryn Cerick of Chilmark.

Hilary Dreyer of West Tisbury and the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, has been accepted by Youth For Understanding USA, an international high school exchange program. Hilary will travel and live with a host family in Spain.

Falmouth Academy announces several students who were inducted into the junior and senior chapters of the National Honor Society.

Beth McElhiney has been selected as one of seven Rising Stars to be featured at the Design Center pavilion at the annual jewelry design show, JCK Las Vegas.

Marie Allen of Oak Bluffs was the recipient of the NAACP Northeast Region's 2007 Living Legends Award. Under her leadership from 2004-2006, the MV NAACP branch was cited as the most outstanding of the 18 branches in the New England Area Conference.

Rose Treat was awarded the Friend of Phycology Award by the Northeast Algal Society at their 46th annual meeting in April. The award is given to a non-professional individual or organization that furthers understanding of the biological and social significance of algae.
