Plants and art

Find locally grown herbs, flowers, vegetables, strawberries, and flowers at this year's Spring Plant and Art Sale at the Christ United Methodist Church on William St. in Vineyard Haven. Also, find picture frames, prints, and more at this sale, which is this Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm, and a benefit for the church.

Park worship service

The Apostolic House of Prayer is having a Worship in the Park this Sunday, May 27, at 10 am. The service will be held in Waban Park on Beach Road in Oak Bluffs. A tent will allow the service to go on, rain or shine. For more information, call the church at 508-696-9916.

Relay close at hand

The fourth annual Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society will be held next Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School running track.

Plan on attending and encourage the teams who have committed to walking the track, continuously, from Friday evening until Saturday at 12 noon.

This year the event has taken on a party atmosphere with games, music, comedy shows, ghost stories, and much more. At 6 pm on Friday, the opening ceremony will include a cancer survivor's talk and at 6:30 pm, cancer survivors will take a lap. At 9 pm the luminarias will be lit. This is always an emotional ceremony as each luminaria bears the name of a cancer survivor or someone who has lost the fight. Bagpiper Tony Peak will provide the music during the slow lap around the track after the candles are lit.

On Saturday morning, there are many events for the family, including music, a Zumba dance class, and a kid's carnival. The relay ends at noon on June 2.

Donations will be accepted throughout the event.
