June Ditchfield

A memorial service in celebration of the life of June Ditchfield, born June 6, 1950, and died April 19, will be held on Wednesday June 6, 6:30 pm at the Old Whaling Church, Main Street, Edgartown.

Miles S. Carpenter

Miles S. Carpenter of Vineyard Haven died on May 24, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. He was 90 years. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Wolontis of Makonikey; his son, Miles "Chip" Carpenter of Maine; and daughter, Elizabeth Starling Carpenter of Nevada.

Lloyd J. Niederlitz

Lloyd J. Niederlitz, 87, of Venice, Fla., and Oak Bluffs died on May 26, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. He was the husband of Mary P. (Ridgway) Niederlitz and father of Kris Niederlitz of Parker, Colo., Gilbert Niederlitz of Bisbee, Ariz., and Lynn Niederlitz of Gainesville, Fla. He was the brother of Marion Momy of Yuma, Ariz., and had eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Paul A. Petricone, Jr.

Paul Anton Petricone, Jr. of Oak Bluffs died on May 25 at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. He was 64.

Paul was the son of Eleanor (Rossetti) Petricone of Oak Bluffs and Paul Petricone, who predeceased him in April of 2006. He was born on November 3, 1942, in Boston and grew up in Arlington. He attended Brown and Nichols School, Newman Prep School and went on to graduate from Northeastern University. He also had a computer science degree.

Paul lived in Marblehead where he owned Engine Tech, a company that specialized in foreign automobile repairs and Formula Race Cars. He later moved to Martha's Vineyard and worked in automotive diagnostics. He also did computer repairs, minor construction and carpentry.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being on the ocean.

Paul is survived by his mother; two brothers, Marc Petricone and his wife, Zoe of Vineyard Haven and Neil Petricone of Plymouth; and a daughter, Sandra Coldwell; his former wife, Carol Bolby; and a niece, Ava Petricone and nephew, Marco Petricone.

His family will be receiving family and friends at the home of Eleanor Petricone, 2 Sengekontacket Road, Oak Bluffs on Sunday, June 3 from 2 to 4 pm.

A memorial service for Elizabeth D. "Betty" Puwal of Edgartown, who died April 26, wife of Anthony "Tony" Puwal, will be held on Friday, June 8, at 10 am, in the Federated Church, N. Edward L. Stanton

Edward L. Stanton

Edward Leonard Stanton 67, formerly of Taos, N.M., and lately of Martha's Vineyard, died peacefully on April 28, in Chocorua, N.H., in the home of Mrs. Margaret Cannon. He was born on April 18, 1940, in Boston, to a Miss Mary Stanton and was later adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Phelan of Lexington. He was educated in Boston area schools.

In the late 1950s he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Later he joined the Merchant Marine. He worked on tugboats in the early and middle 1960s in New York City.

In 1968, he arrived in Taos, N.M., and resided at the Old M&M Garage. In 1969 he built a treehouse in El Salto, before heading to Europe, Eastern Europe, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey. On August 9, 1978, he married Roberta Wagner in N.H. From this union two children issued forth - Rede Joseph Stanton, 28, of Martha's Vineyard, and Moriah Rose Stanton, 26, of Southampton, N.Y. Ed and Roberta divorced early 80's and he subsequently gained full custody and raised his two children between New England, New Mexico, and Mexico.

Ed was a loving father, teacher, and mentor to many. He devoted the last 15 years of his life to learning and teaching the Human Design System. He founded humandesign.us that birthed the "Human Design Institute."

Maria Lopes

Maria Lopes

Maria "Mei-Mei" (Lombard) Lopes, 105 years old, died on May 11 at Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Lopes was the wife of Marcelino Lopes, and John Paulette. She is survived by her son Gilbert John Paulette of La Mesa, Calif., and Irene Paulette Dugan of Vineyard Haven. She was the loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Marcelino Lopes, and John Paulette; her son, John A. Paulette; her brothers, Manuel, Louis, Frank, John; and her sister, Candida Lombard.

Ms. Lopes was born in Portugal. She was the daughter of the Antonio and Dominga (de Simoes) Lombard. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lopes's funeral was held on May 15 at Perry Funeral Home in New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial followed at St. John Cemetery. Arlene Colter

Arlene (Johnson) Colter, 82, died on May 29, at her home in Edgartown. She was the wife of Richard I. Colter, Sr. who predeceased her in February of 2000. She was the mother of Rich Colter of Edgartown and Nancy-Alyce Abbott of West Tisbury; sister of Nancy A. Clarke of Edgartown; and grandmother of four grandsons.

Her graveside service will be held on Friday, June 1, at 2 pm in the Tower Hill Cemetery, off Katama Road, Edgartown, officiated by the Rev. Gerry Fritz.
