Strike up the band
The Vineyard Haven Band begins its 139th season at their first rehearsal on Monday, June 4. Always looking for new members, the group holds weekly practices in preparation for their first concert on June 24 at Ocean Park. Concerts include weekly outings to Owen and Ocean parks, the Fourth of July festivities in Edgartown, and fireworks night in Oak Bluffs.
Island school conductor Julie Schilling will lead the first rehearsals in place of band conductor Bill Eriksen. Several instruments may be available for use, so if you don't have one, maybe one is waiting for you. For more information, call band president Frank Dunkl at 508-645-3458 or Julie Schilling at 508-693-2352.
