Summer dance

This summer, improve your dancing with Vineyard Dance during their six-week summer dance course. Learn or practice classical ballet, modern dance and jazz, Floor-Barre, and center work at the Oak Bluffs School.

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 am, Kathy Costanza will teach ballet, barre and center work. Tuesday and Thursdays at 5:30 pm, work on modern dance and modern jazz. Fridays at 9 am will be floor barre for modern and ballet dancers. For more information, call Kathy or Bill Costanza at 508-693-2257.

Ushers wanted

The Vineyard Playhouse is looking for ushers to help with pre-show preparations, seating patrons, and general help during intermissions for this summer's show season. Mastering voice

The Performer's Workshop for Singers and Pianists, Inc. begins their summer master classes in voice and piano on the Island on Wednesday, July 4, at the West Tisbury Congregational Church. In its 10th year, the Performer's Workshop works with both Islanders and off-Islanders in one group, and performs pieces such as opera, Broadway, and Spirituals. The two-week workshop is for those who wish to progress their voice, style, and language, and learn new music as well. At the bookstore

Thomas Laird, author of "The Story of Tibet: Conversations with the Dalai Lama," is speaking at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore this Friday evening. The title is literal; Mr. Laird, a journalist, spent more than 60 hours in interviews with His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet over the course of three years. His free talk begins at 7:30 pm, upstairs at the bookstore, which is located on Main Street, Vineyard Haven. For more information, call 508-693-2291.

Have an act up your sleeve waiting to be shown off such as juggling, singing, silly dancing, ventriloquism, impressions, lip-syncing, air guitar, comedy, or some other ridiculous idea?
