Philip Dine of Vineyard Haven and Washington, D.C., won the National Press Club's 2007 Edwin Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence for his reports on Afghanistan's illicit narcotics trade. The stories also won first place for investigative reporting from the Washington Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Grant Santos of Vineyard Haven recently won the state award for high honors in math and verbal talent search by the John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

Emily Diamond of Vineyard Haven received high honors for the spring term at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.
