A considerably larger than expected crowd turned out at the Vineyard Haven Public Library last Sunday to honor the memory of two of the town's most widely acclaimed summer residents.

Pulitzer Prize winning novelist William Styron, who died in November, and political humorist Art Buchwald, who died in January, were remembered with stories, jokes, touching anecdotes, and extensive readings from their respective work.

Among those reading were Mr. Styron's daughter, Alexandra, and his widow, Rose. Mr. Buchwald's son, Joel, and actor Leslie Stark read from the late Mr. Buchwald's work.

Mike Wallace, the journalist who was the third member of the legendary Vineyard Haven troika, capped the afternoon with an emotional recounting of the extraordinary friendship among the three men.

The event was organized by Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library.
