Two parties frame the summer
The residents of Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center opened and closed the summer with two special parties, a family barbecue on June 21 and a tea party at the end of August. Activities director Betsy Burmeister wanted to start the summer off by bringing families together for a big cook-out. The weather cooperated, a bit windy, but very sunny. The garden was still lush as the summer's drought hadn't yet taken hold. The delicious food was prepared and served by Chris Porterfield and his staff from the hospital kitchen and guests were entertained by the Vineyard Sound.
To end the summer, Ms. Burmeister had a garden tea party on August 31. Beautiful teacups and saucers were set on the tables along with vases of flowers. China teapots held a variety of special teas and the residents were treated to sumptuous pastries.
The two events that sandwiched Windemere's summer were staged in their beautiful garden and hosted by the wonderful staff who try to make each day special for the residents.
