The art of delicious

Posted October 4, 2007

It's an event to make Willy Wonka and Russell Stover proud this weekend at Featherstone Center for the Arts. Featherstone's fourth annual Art of Chocolate Festival runs this Friday through Monday, beginning with an opening night party.

Everything chocolate - from art to martinis - can be found at Friday's preview party, from 7-9 pm. This is the first chance for chocolate-lovers to indulge in desserts and drink at the weekend-long event. For a donation, taste varieties of chocolate, sip champagne or chocolate martinis, and visually enjoy unique displays of chocolate.

The sweet weekend event continues with daily tastings available through Monday, Oct. 8. Find all kinds of chocolate, including white, cakes, a chocolate fountain, brownies and truffles. For $5, visitors may taste three selections of their choice. While sampling, don't forget about the art on display from Island artists, depicting their imaginative creations on the subject.

And it's not all about eating. An educational component follows with the story of chocolate in photos and film. "Certified chocoholics" will be present to offer their knowledge and tips for finding and making the best chocolates on the Island.

Art of Chocolate Festival, Preview Party, 7-9 pm, Friday, Oct. 5. $25, $50, or $100 donation. Festival continues Saturday through Monday, 12 noon to 4 pm. $5 donation to taste 3 chocolates. Featherstone Center for the Arts, Barnes Rd., Oak Bluffs. 508-693-1850.
