Theatre classes begin

Island Theatre Workshop announces the 30th season of acting classes for the Winter Children's Theatre, formerly called the Apprentice Players. Teacher and director Lee Fierro is taking registrations for the new session, beginning soon.

Classes run weekly from 3 to 5 pm at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven. Included in the classes will be theatre games, improvisation, and more, all preparing the young actor for a February 2008 production.

Undiscovered gem: "Full Grown Men"

This month's IndieWIRE Undiscovered Gem is "Full Grown Men," a road-trip movie "As entertaining as the wine tour in 'Sideways,'" according to LA Weekly. Directed by acclaimed shorts director David Munro, the film stars Matt McGrath as Alby, a man who has yet to grow up. After his wife kicks him out of the house and tells him, "Don't come back till you grow up," Alby takes a trip with his friend. The film has received many positive reviews, and will only be screened in 11 cities nationwide.

Holiday casting call

This year's family holiday show at the Vineyard Playhouse is Earl Hamner Jr.'s "The Homecoming," adapted by Christopher Sergel and directed by MJ Bruder Munafo. The Playhouse is holding open auditions this weekend, looking for actors of many ages and all ethnic backgrounds. More specifically, three African-American roles are needed: one adult male and two children. There are eight open slots for adults, three for teenagers ages 13 to 16, and eight for children ages 5 to 12. Auditions are on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 25 and 26, from 4 to 6 pm.
