On Sunday, the Cycling Club of M.V. and the M.V. Peace Council organized "Bike to Fight Global Warming," a cross-town bicycle ride, to express their desire for climate stability. The riders left from Vineyard Haven and rode to Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs on Nov. 4, one year (less one day) before the next presidential election. The Island's event was part of a nationwide event called "Step It Up 2007."

"We just had a leisurely ride," said Chris Fried, member of the M.V. Peace Council. "We had people of all ages, from about seven for the boy, and Alden Besse is 83."

The event was held on its rain date, Sunday, instead of Saturday because of the weather. For more information about the nationwide event, visit stepitup2007.com.
