Party gets the shopping started

Posted November 21, 2007

Last Friday's Gift Show opening reception at Featherstone Center for the Arts will certainly lead to many other openings - of gifts, that is - as shoppers discover the wonderful handmade items offered there. The Gift Show, now in its fifth year, gives local artists a venue to sell their work during the holiday shopping season and gives buyers the opportunity to find unusual, locally made items and to support Island artists.

The opening night party was well attended and a fun evening. Guests paid $50 for the chance to shop first. They were also treated to delicious food and beverages to warm the body. Cakes by Liz made petite cupcakes, both beautiful and delicious.

Big-selling items at the party were ceramics and greeting cards, with calendars close behind. The price range of the Island-made gifts is from $5 to $250, something for everyone's pocketbook.

The gift shop will be open daily from 12 noon to 4 pm through Friday, Dec. 21 at Featherstone Center for the Arts, Barnes Road, Oak Bluffs. For more information, call 508-693-1850.
