Thanksgiving Alka-thon

There will be an all day Thanksgiving Alka-thon on Thursday, Nov. 22, sponsored by the Martha's Vineyard Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous. Meetings are scheduled throughout the day - at 10 am, 12 noon, and 2, 4, and 8 pm - and there will be live entertainment from 7 to 8 pm. The no-charge event is at the Trinity Methodist Church Parish Hall in the Campground in Oak Bluffs. If you'd like to contribute, the group would appreciate food, beverages, and entertainment. Help Habitat build

Habitat for Humanity of M.V. is looking for volunteers to work on their fifth house being built on the Island. Build days are Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Cedar shingles will be installed on the exterior walls. The site is located off of Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Vineyard Haven. For more information, call 508-696-4646.

Papermaking workshop

For extra personal holiday and special occasion cards, Sandy Bernat of Seastone Papers is holding a workshop this Saturday, Nov. 24, in hand papermaking. Local plant fibers such as cornhusk, iris, daffodil, leeks, and ornamental grasses are prepared, cooked, and beaten for form, which leaves you to experiment with them to create your own sheets of paper. The workshop is from 1 to 4 pm, and costs $65. The studio is located on Christiantown Road in West Tisbury. For more information, call Sandy at 508-693-5786.

Felix Neck

Felix Neck fall festival

Felix Neck is celebrating with a fall festival this Friday. Feast on soups, burgers, and baked goods, hear music from Ballyhoo, and enjoy hayrides, face painting, a yarn-spinning demonstration, and games. The festival is from 11 am to 3 pm, and the rain date is Saturday, Nov. 24. Admission is $4, or $2 for members. Felix Neck is located on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Edgartown. Recycle at Edgartown library

The Edgartown Library is working to raise money through an Island-wide recycling program. The staff invites you to bring your recyclable cans and bottles to the bin at the library. Their goal is to raise $2,000 by the end of the year, and currently they are at $1,600. If you require a special pick up, call Pat at 508-627-3297.
