Matthew Goldman has been in and around boats throughout life, and he shares his adventures both large and small in a collection of prose nuggets titled "The Journals of Constant Waterman: Paddling, Poling, and Sailing for the Love of It."

Who will be interested in this book of 90 short essays? The publisher, Breakaway Books, says the book will appeal anyone who's ever paused to watch a water strider; anyone who leans when they see a sloop heel; anyone who hopes to find a message in a bottle.

Mr. Goldman of Stonington, Conn., has worked as a toolmaker, a woodworker, and land surveyor. He's written drama, comedy, and farce as well as poetry. Mr. Goldman writes a column for the boating magazine, Messing About in Boats. He keeps his sloop, Moon Wind, in Noank, Conn. u
