Dance - Step into the magic

By Anna Marie D'Addarie - November 29, 2007

The Nutcracker Gala, a larger-than-life ballet, will take over the Performing Arts Center this Saturday and Sunday. What better way to celebrate the holiday season? Presented by Children in the Arts of Martha's Vineyard with the Martha's Vineyard School of Ballet, Island dancers will be joined by professional dancers from the Atlantic Coast Ballet and guest dancers from Ballet Repertory Theatre of California and the Milwaukee Ballet.

This show features beautiful sets and lavish costumes together with Tchaikovsky's beloved music. From the animated party scene that opens the show, the audience will be transported to a dream world where the Nutcracker Prince battles with the Mouse King, snowflakes dart, and the Sugar Plum Fairy and her handsome Cavalier join in their classic dance.

More than 60 Island dancers, from toddlers to adults, have been working on this show for months. Parents of young dancers and friends of the ballet school will perform in the opening party scene. In the past few weeks the adult dancers have been rehearsing for this weekend's show, learning the steps and having lots of fun.

Tanya Vincent and Coby Vincent will once again dance the roles of the Snow Queen and King. The Vincents are with the Ballet Repetory Theatre of California. Dale Jordan, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Marc Petrocci, the Cavalier, are both from the Milwaukee Ballet.

The combination of Island talent, guest stars, and beautiful music will add up to holiday magic for the entire family.
