Art - Art show helps family

Posted December 13, 2007

Last Sunday night friends of the Hagen family - John, Dede, Garret, and Hannah - gathered at the Granary Gallery in West Tisbury to offer support to Dede, who is fighting cancer. Dozens of Island artists joined together and donated work, and proceeds from the sale benefited the family. The gallery has promised to match the donations. Some 80 artists who regularly show their work at the Granary, Field, and Gardner-Colby galleries, donated more than 112 pieces to this special show. Many pieces by John Hagen are included.

Ms. Hagen teaches the combined third and fourth grades at the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School. Many of her students came to the reception and the young people added a joyous spirit. The evening had the feel of a celebration and indeed it was. It celebrated what's good about our Island community, neighbors helping neighbors.
