Phil's back

A holiday gallery
The Artisan's Gift Gallery has taken over Beth McElhiney's Gallery in Vineyard Haven until the end of the month. All the work in the gallery is by Island artists and artisans, and this Friday evening will be a reception for four glass and ceramics artists. The reception highlights the work of Jeri Dantzig, Amy Nevin, and Washington Ledesma. The reception is on Friday, Dec. 21, from 4 to 7 pm, and the gallery is located at 383 State Road. Regular hours are 10 am to 6 pm.
Finding peace
The holidays are not always joyous occasions. For people who have lost a loved one, the holidays can be very difficult. No one knows this better than the people at Hospice of Martha's Vineyard.
To help people find comfort, Island musicians and singers join to offer a concert on Dec. 12, called Reflections of Peace. The concert has been held for the past 11 years and it benefits hospice. Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs provided the perfect location with candlelight, Christmas decorations celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, and acoustics that enveloped the audience.
Selections included "In Dulci Jubilo" by J.S. Bach; "A Babe is Born," by William Mathias, "What Sweeter Music," by John Rutter, and an Andrew Lloyd Webber arrangement of "Pie Jesu." The concert ended with everyone singing "Silent Night."
