Volunteers wanted
Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands is looking for volunteer bill payers and program monitors to help the growing number of elders who use their Money Management Program. Volunteers would assist clients in living independently by helping them organize and pay their bills on time.
There will be a volunteer training on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 9:30 am to 1 pm at the Elder Services office in South Dennis. The office is located on 68 Route 134. For more information or to sign up, call Martha Waldo at 508-394-4630 ext. 156, or e-mail her at Martha.waldo@escci.org.

Classes are $9, and $6 for members. If you register for all three classes by Jan. 9, pay $24, or $15 for members. To register, call 508-627-4850 ext. 101.
Noise-making at the library
On Saturday, Dec. 29, the West Tisbury library had a noisemaker craft session for children. All sorts of art supplies were used, from crayons to colored pipe cleaners, to make the celebratory creations to be used later in the week.
Extended families
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha's Vineyard held a holiday party on Dec. 18 at Outerland. Santa was there, doing what he does best, distributing gifts to the children. There was good music and good food too. Executive director Janice Perrin said, the party "...was a thank-you to our volunteers and to acknowledge the families in our program."
Under wraps
Jim Norton will share his expertise on the religion, customs and history of South Asia in a seven-part course, Under the Burqa, offered by the Vineyard Haven Library Evening Lecture Series. Among the compelling books and films that will be used as resources is Mr. Norton's textbook, "Global Studies: India and South Asia," in its eighth edition.
The series is free and open to the public. The library will make all material available without charge.
Under the Burqa series begins Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7 pm, and will continue on consecutive Wednesdays through Feb. 20. Those interested are asked to sign up for the course at the Vineyard Haven library. Contact 508-696-4211, ext. 16.
